Overview

A game-management tool built from the ground up with React and Node.js: live-ops for every game the studio ran — player lookup, economy adjustments, event scheduling, announcements, and server controls in one place.

It replaced ad-hoc scripts and direct database edits, significantly improving team productivity and cutting operational workload within three months.

The problem

Operating live games meant SSH sessions and hand-written SQL against production — slow, error-prone, and impossible to audit. Non-engineers couldn't run events or resolve player issues without pulling a developer.

Architecture

A React SPA over a Node.js API that talks to each game server through a standard admin protocol. Role-based permissions gate every action, and an audit log records who changed what — making live-ops safe for non-engineers.

React admin SPA → Node.js API (RBAC + audit log) → game servers via admin protocol

Highlights

  • —Productivity within 3 months Support and ops tasks that needed an engineer became self-service for the whole team.
  • —Safe production operations Role-based permissions and a full audit log replaced raw SQL against live databases.
  • —One tool for every game A standard admin protocol let each new game plug into the same UI.
